Iron Deficiency

Iron is a mineral required to make red blood cells that carry oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body. If you have low iron levels, you may experience tiredness, dizziness, paleness, shortness of breath and struggle with daily routine. In pregnancy, iron deficiency may increase the risk of premature birth and low birth weight.

An iron infusion is an effective method to treat iron deficiency. It is delivered intravenously - into the vein through a needle. Iron infusions are prescribed when oral iron replacement is not tolerated (stomach upset, nausea, constipation) or ineffective (not absorbed properly in the gut).

Speak to your doctor if you suspect you might be iron deficient. There are a few different types of iron infusion available. Your doctor will provide you with more information about which type you require and ensure that the benefits of iron infusion outweigh the risks and side effects.

Other Intravenous Infusion

Infusion for Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a chronic disease that makes your bones weak and brittle, increasing the likelihood of breaking from minor injuries or falls. One of the treatments for osteoporosis is a group of medications called a bisphosphonate, which can be given intravenously (into the vein through a needle). It is often prescribed when oral replacement is not tolerated or is ineffective. This treatment is given over 30 minutes and only once a year. Speak to your doctor to find out if this is suitable for you.

Fluid Rehydration Infusion

If you think you might be suffering from dehydration (e.g. nausea and vomiting from morning sickness, vomiting and diarrhoea from gastroenteritis), you might benefit from intravenous rehydration (fluid given into the vein through a needle). This method usually takes effect quickly. Contact your doctor to arrange one.

Antibiotics Infusion & other medication Infusion

Antibiotic Infusion allows antibiotics to be administered directly into the vein, and enter the bloodstream to reach tissues faster at a higher concentration, as compared to oral antibiotics. This usually treats severe infection or infections that are multidrug resistant. This can be done as an outpatient in your doctor’s room, avoiding the need for hospitalisation. Speak to your doctor to find out if this is an option for you.

In addition, certain medication to treat symptoms such as nausea/vomiting/diarrhoea, stomach cramps, headaches/migraines, dizziness/vertigo can also be discussed and arranged with your doctor

Vitamin C Infusion

Vitamin C is a nutrient that can be found in food and supplements. It is also known as an antioxidant that protects your cells from free radicals and helps with the growth and repair of body tissues. In addition, it also plays an important role in making collagen. Vitamin C can be taken orally or delivered intravenously - into the vein through a needle. When given via infusion, vitamin C can reach the tissues faster and at a higher level of concentration. Speak to your doctor to find out if this will be beneficial for you.
